Overview

The module will include: •Structure and function of the human body including cells, tissues and membranes. •Structure and physiology of bone and muscle. •Physiology of blood. •Functional anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system; to include (but not limited to) the structure and function of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves. •Common injuries and pathologies and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system/ •Functional anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory system, to include (but not limited to) the structure and function of the heart, and lungs; including the response to exercise. •Common conditions affecting the cardiorespiratory system •Functional anatomy and physiology of the nervous system; to include (but not limited to) the structure and function of the central and peripheral nervous systems. •Injuries and conditions affecting the peripheral and central nervous systems •Principles and practice of physiotherapy techniques relating to the above conditions •Biomechanics and human movement in relation to function, e.g. ambulation, transfers, activities of daily living (sit to stand, reaching, turning 180 degrees). •Surface marking of anatomical structures •Gait analysis •Inflammation and tissue repair •Holistic assessment

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -50% Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Basic understanding of applied functional anatomy and physiology Students will be required to achieve a minimum of C- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module. -good -60% Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Good understanding of applied functional anatomy and physiology . This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria. -excellent -70%> Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Very good understanding of applied anatomy and physiology. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria

Learning Outcomes

• Critically analyse current evidence in relation to the inflammatory process

• Practically demonstrate a critical understanding of biomechanics and human movement

• Practically demonstrate a critical understanding of the structure and function of human anatomy

• Synthesise and evaluate common pathologies associated with the three core areas of physiotherapy
