On the 26 June 2026, we welcomed 53 students from schools and colleges across North Wales to 58³Ô¹Ï for our annual Investment Challenge, alongside a visiting group from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
 

Designed to introduce students to the realities of financial markets, the challenge placed participants in the role of traders, making investment decisions in real time as market conditions changed. From the moment the session began, students were fully engaged.

A strong sense of competition quickly developed, with participants analysing trends, balancing risk and adapting their strategies under pressure. The result was a dynamic, interactive learning experience that brought investment principles to life.

By the end of the session, students had developed valuable skills in critical thinking, decision making and understanding risk, all within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Experiences like this are a key part of our outreach work, helping students explore subject areas, build confidence and gain insight into university level study.

Dr Sara Parry and Dr Sonya Hanna supported the students in cracking the code of marketing – the students found out how maths powers ads, brands, and big campaigns.

On 25 February, we proudly hosted our first Girls in STEM Conference, welcoming 68 Year 10 pupils to campus. Delivered in partnership with EESW/STEM Cymru, the event set out to inspire and empower young women to explore future pathways in STEM and discover the opportunities waiting for them in these exciting fields.

From coding Sphero robots to cracking data puzzles, discovering the maths behind marketing and experimenting in STEM labs, the day was all about curiosity, confidence and ideas that make a difference.

It was a pleasure to welcome students from Runshaw College to The Albert Gubay Business School on the 24^th February 2026.

They jumped straight into our fast-paced Investment Challenge – a dynamic trading simulation designed to test teamwork, sharpen problem-solving skills, and build confident decision-making under pressure.

The energy in the room was fantastic, and the students from Runshaw College rose to the challenge with real enthusiasm. 

We loved seeing their competitive spirit and curiosity in action.

Sixth form students get hands-on with real-world trading in our state-of-the-art Bloomberg Trading Room. During their visit, they took part in an exciting investment challenge, learning how financial markets work and developing skills that matter for future careers.

Students from Ysgol Bodedern and Ysgol Bryn Elian are introduced to the Bloomberg Trading Room and take part in an investment challenge game. 

Myddelton College took part the Investment Challenge.

On Friday, 27th June we welcomed A level students to the Investment Challenge for an engaging, hands-on experience.

Students toured the university and visited the trading room, where they learnt about the value of Bloomberg terminals and trading within investment banks.

Ysgol Bodedern and Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones attended the Investment Challenge.

Daniel Twigge from Ysgol Bodedern was awarded the prize for participation in the Investment Challenge. 

This hands-on experience offered a real insight into the fast-paced world of trading.

We welcomed year 11, 12 and 13 students from schools in North Wales and immersed them in the fast-paced world of business data analytics.

The conference featured expert speakers from The Welsh Government, Google, and other leading organisations, offering insights into how data is transforming business.

In partnership with the Welsh Government, we were delighted to welcome schools from North Wales to our first Discover Economics Conference.  

Pupils from year 11,12 and 13 participated in interactive learning, showcasing the power of transformative power of economics and the diverse career opportunities it offers.
