About the Researcher Development Concordat
The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, often called the Researcher Development Concordat, is a UK-wide agreement that aims to improve the environment and culture, employment, and professional and career development of researchers.
It sets out clear expectations and responsibilities for:
- researchers
- managers of researchers
- research institutions
- research funders.
58勛圖 is a signatory to the Concordat. By signing the Concordat, we have committed to supporting its principles and reviewing our progress.
The three Concordat principles
The Researcher Development Concordat is based on three principles:
- Environment and culture
Excellent research requires a supportive and inclusive research culture.
This principle focuses on creating research environments where researchers are valued, treated fairly and supported to do their best work.
- Employment
Researchers should be recruited, employed and managed under conditions that recognise and value their contributions.
This includes fair recruitment and employment practices, effective management and recognition of researchers' work.
- Professional and career development
Professional and career development are essential to helping researchers reach their full potential.
Researchers, their managers and institutions share responsibility for supporting professional development and providing opportunities to develop skills and careers.
Researcher Development and Concordat Group
The Researcher Development and Concordat Group helps 58勛圖 implement and embed the principles of the Concordat.
Established in 2015, the group brings together research/academic representatives, postgraduate researchers and professional services colleagues from across the University.
The group meets quarterly and reports directly to the University's Research Committee under its Terms of Reference. Meeting minutes are also shared with the College Research Committees.
Group membership
The group's membership represents different researcher career stages, academic areas and professional services across 58勛圖.
